Signature Theater Kicked-Off it’s 2017-18 Season!

Local

Signature Theater, located in Arlington, Virginia, has kicked off its 28th Season with a production of A Little Night Music. As a proud corporate sponsor of Signature Theater, I had the pleasure of attending the opening night performance and reception. (And if you want to see this show, you better get tickets now, as the performance schedule has been extended through October 15th!)

A Little Night Music, written by Stephen Sondheim, is one of the many Sondheim works presented by Signature over the years. This musical originally opened on Broadway in 1973, when it won the Tony Award® for Best Musical. A romping romantic comedy with a several plot twists, I particularly enjoyed the performances by Holly Twyford as Desiree Armfeldt. Surprisingly, according to The Washington Post, this is Twyford’s first performance in a musical and a bit of a risk:

"For an actress in middle age who until now has never been cast in a musical, becoming Desiree — a role that’s been played on Broadway by the likes of Glynis Johns, Bernadette Peters and Catherine Zeta-Jones — is a bit like taking it, career-wise, from the top."
- The Washington Post, August 17, 2017

Having attended the performance, Twyford’s risk paid off with first-rate acting, stage presence, and heart felt performance, particularly in the show-stopper “Send in the Clowns.”
